Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, expressed his desire for the state to be recognized as one of the leading states in Nigeria.
He shared this ambition during a Symposium organized by the Benue State government to celebrate Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Day.
The governor thanked the scholars and participants for attending, emphasizing the need for collaboration between the government and the people to uplift the state and the nation despite prevailing challenges.
The event featured three paper presentations on topics including Nigeria’s history and the Benue experience, the socio-economic development of Benue State, and the importance of good governance based on vision and core values.

In Nigeria, there is a big talk about money. The Naira, which is Nigeria’s money, now needs N1000 to match just one US dollar. This is a big change, and many people are worried. Why? Because when the Naira is weak, things can become expensive for people in Nigeria. If you went to a shop and saw that the price of bread or milk suddenly went up a lot, you would be worried too
But there’s some hope. There’s a new person in charge of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). His name is Olayemi Cardoso. He was chosen for this big job by an important man, President Bola Tinubu. Everyone is now watching Mr. Cardoso closely to see what he will do to help the Naira.
Olayemi Cardoso is now the boss of the CBN. The CBN is like a big bank that looks after all the other banks in Nigeria. It’s a very important place because it helps to decide how much the Naira is worth.
Cardoso has a tough job now. Imagine if your family had very little money and you had to find a way to make sure everyone had enough food, clothes, and other things. That’s a bit like Cardoso’s job, but for the whole country!
Mr. Cardoso recently had a chat with the Senate. The Senate is a group of people who help make rules and decisions for Nigeria. Cardoso told them about his plans for the Naira. He said, “The Naira being stable is very, very important. It’s like the heartbeat of our country. I have some ideas to help right away and some for later.”
There’s another problem Cardoso wants to fix. There is a lot of money that hasn’t moved where it should go. Imagine if you did a job and were promised some money, but you had to wait a very long time to get it. That wouldn’t be good, right? This is happening with some money in Nigeria, especially money from other countries.
Cardoso said, “We can see there’s money waiting. We will make sure everything is okay with it. Then we will move it fast. We can’t make things better in Nigeria if we don’t solve this waiting money problem first.”
You know how when you go to a shop, things have price tags? Cardoso wants to make sure those prices don’t jump up and down too much. He wants prices to be calm and steady. This is good because people can plan better. If you know how much bread will cost next week, you can save the right amount of money for it.
Cardoso told the Senate, “We will have a clear plan that’s easy to see and understand. When prices are steady, it’s good for the Naira. And when other countries see we are doing a good job, they will want to bring their money and business to Nigeria.”
Cardoso thinks Nigeria is a great place for business. He wants people from other countries to see this too. If they believe Nigeria is a good place to work and make money, they will come. This can help the Naira become stronger.
